Consider this your call to action.
I know that we all love this site as an expression of our individuality, but the fact of the matter is, we are under attack. And what we do is distracting us from that fact.
The American government now has all the records from Megaupload’s…
Ok, here’s what trips me out: Fines are supposed to scare people off of doing something. The steeper they are, the more you’d think they’d actually fit the crime. Example: Depending on which ticket you’re on, speeding can cost you an upwards incline starting around $140 (while, say, the less serious crime of being in a hover lane cost $60). Speeding is a serious crime and can get people killed, so this makes sense.
So, where the hell is the sense that someone would have to pay millions of dollars when no one got killed? No one is dead. This is not a deadly crime. This isn’t even remotely a deadly crime. And yet, we place higher fees on downloading illegal content then we do on actual crimes that can get people killed? Seriously?
